Wilderness Accommodation Tasmania
Wilderness Lodge and Retreat in Tasmania
Our enchanted valley edges the West Gawler River, surrounded by mature and fascinating natural forest, tantalisingly inviting exploration.
Wild Heart Lodge provides personalised boutique accommodation in totally secluded tranquility. With only four bedrooms over two storeys, we offer a peaceful ambiance for like-minded guests. Our two-storey, raked ceiling, open-plan kitchen-dining-living area, overlooking the lawn, garden and valley, creates an amazing feeling of space and light that entices you out into the sunshine. Encircled by established gardens that attract a myriad of brilliantly coloured and industrious native birds, you can view nature unfolding through every window.
Spectacular views down the valley to the surrounding hills become even more intriguing when early morning mists rise through the trees, or sit, morphing like a witch’s cauldron, along the river.
High above the valley an old railway formation runs through the forest, with impressive cuttings and high embankments.
The Southern Cross tracks across the magnificent night sky with countless other constellations and millions of stars.
The Wilderness Lodge started life as a warehouse on the Devonport Docks, and was dismantled, transported and reconstructed in our valley in 1983, operating as a basic retreat for some years. Although retaining its historic structure, our forest accommodation has now been transformed, with modern facilities. Reverse-cycle air-conditioning is available for those rare hot days in summer. A wood fire, and the north-facing sunroom overlooking the gardens, dam and the eagles’ favourite tree, keep you cosy when the days start to shorten.
With 20 years’ experience in professional wildlife photography, we also offer workshops for beginners to advanced photographers. We customise packages to suit individual tuition or group workshops, run over single or multiple days, consecutively or periodically, on weekdays or weekends. Cost depends upon the number of attendees and the length and knowledge level required of the course.
